Due to resurfacing works at Skilled Stadium reigning AFL Premiers the Geelong Cats were forced to find an alternate venue to continue it’s all important training program.
With Geelong’s climate being dry like most of Australian cities & to provide a ground that conforms to AFL standards, limited the number of locations available to the club. Elderslie Reserve was chosen to host the football club, but only on a shared arrangement with the local cricket club.
As the cricket season was in full swing there was still the need to use the concrete playing pitch in the centre of the ground. This created an urgent need to cover this surface during the week for footy training & then to uncover the pitch on weekends to play cricket.

Steve Hocking former player & Assistant General Manager of Football said
”Our training program would have been severely hampered if we had not found Gecko’s solution. The pitch cover has been extremely successful and the players run over it & change direction with confidence.
For our players to prepare and then play at their best you need to be sure that the surface is good, and Gecko has provided us with an excellent product which has enabled us to run our business as usual”.

The Geelong Cats quickly learned about Gecko’s Pitch Cover System & after their critical assessment to ensure player safety & comfort called on Gecko to provide their solution.
Gecko’s system now allows the club to roll out the pitch cover at the beginning of the week for footy training sessions, and then to be rolled up for weekend cricket exposing an undamaged and perfect playing wicket for the A Grade cricketers.
At the end of this season the pitch cover will be exposed to almost 30 years of lifting use with only some small signs of wear.
